Why I Wrote South Sudan: From Liberation to Diplomacy — The Author’s Preface

I wrote this book because South Sudan’s independence on 9 July 2011 cannot be understood apart from the history that preceded it. The referendum and the final liberation struggle came after generations of conquest, resistance, political exclusion, constitutional argument, armed conflict and engagement beyond Sudan’s borders.
